FAQ

Elektra Cruise is a new 2021 Duffy 22 ft. Sun Cruiser. She is 100% electric, powered by 16 golf cart batteries stored inside her keel. Duffy electric boats are eco-friendly, emission-free, elegant, and easy to operate. They motor along at around 5-6 mph and are nearly silent, enhancing your boating experience.

Amenities include a comfortable interior with plenty of cushioned seating, two movable tables, and a large canopy with big windows that can be zipped open or shut. There is a small refrigerator, large ice chest/padded cooler, plenty of shade, and an aft sun deck with a bench seat. There is also a blue-tooth enabled stereo system for playing your favorite tunes, and an electric anchor windlass and anchor. There is no bathroom on board, however, so plan accordingly…

Elektra Cruise offers several boat rental and tour options, from private charters to public boat tours depending on the schedule.

  • Guided River Tours: Our most popular option is a guided 90-minute tour along the “Oshkosh on the Water” scenic waterways. Under the friendly guidance of a USCG licensed captain, we explore the Fox River that winds through historic downtown Oshkosh. We also venture out into the adjacent Lake Winnebago or Lake Butte des Morts if weather permits.

  • Boat Rentals: Elektra Cruise may also be rented without a captain, subject to certain age and boating experience requirements.

  • Waterway Clean-Ups and Water Sampling: In conjunction with local non-profits or educational environmental groups, Elektra Cruise is an eco-friendly way to volunteer and help protect our local waters.

  • Beginner Boating classes: We can also provide private boating instruction if you would like to learn to drive an electric boat.

  • Romantic Sunset Cruise or Date Night: Enjoy a relaxing cruise before dining out or attending a local concert or event.

  • Photoshoots on the water for special events: Your “special occasions afloat”, from reunions, date nights, weddings, graduations, or birthdays; can be arranged with local professional photographers.

As of May 1st, 2022, we will be operating out of the newly renovated Fox Harbor Marina. The harbor is tucked off the southwest side of the Fox River, next to Bauman Park. The marina address is Fox Harbor Marina, 1000 Bauman Street, Oshkosh, WI 54902. There is free street parking available and a bathroom on site.

That depends:  If hiring a captain, the USCG rules for uninspected passenger vessels only allow up to six passengers, plus the captain. If renting the boat on your own without a captain, up to 10 passengers are allowed.

Yes, you may BYOB, we provide a large cooler and small refrigerator. You can also purchase ice and other refreshments, (soft drinks, beer, and wine) for sale at Fox Harbor Marina’s office. Keep in mind space is limited for serving, so light snacks and drinks in unbreakable containers are recommended. A designated driver is required if alcohol is being served and no underage drinking is permitted.

Yes, we can recommend local vendors who provide these services, for an additional fee.

A written boating resume/application with prior boating experience; Wisconsin boating safety certification card (if under age 33); and refundable $500 damage deposit. The minimum age to rent the boat without a captain is 25 years old.

Equipment Damage Deposit: Before your departure, please allow time for a safety orientation and an equipment inventory inspection will be done. Upon return, the boat will again be inspected for any damages or lost equipment. You are responsible for any damaged or lost equipment up to the amount of the security deposit.

Life Jackets or PFD Requirements: We provide both adult and children’s life jackets. Federal law requires children under the age of 13 to wear a USCG–approved PFD while underway in an open vessel on federally controlled waters.

We would rather you leave pets at home, but understand pets are family, too. We will require an additional $50.00 pet fee in addition to the rental fee. We recommend that small, well-behaved dogs have a doggie life jacket and are kept off the cushioned seating. You are responsible for cleaning up after your pet and any damage. Never leave a dog alone on a boat tied to a leash for their safety. We are not responsible for any injuries to your pet.

Wisconsin law requires those born on or after January 1, 1989, to pass a boater safety course and to carry a boater education card while skippering a motorized boat or PWC.

There is an online exam available at www.boat-ed.com/wisconsin. The safe boating certificate is good for life and doesn’t need to be renewed. The cost of the course is $35.95.

Liability Waivers and Boat Rental Contract: Our insurance requires that all participants sign a hold harmless liability insurance waiver and rental agreement before departure. These can be signed electronically in advance of your trip by providing your email.

That is also an option. We may be able to pick up and drop off at nearby docks or restaurants along the Fox River. Of course, the weather conditions, and distance are factors. This must be arranged in advance and additional delivery fees may apply.

There are several options. The Fox River runs through downtown Oshkosh, with Lake Winnebago at the east end of the Fox River and Lake Butte des Morts on the west end. Itineraries are weather dependent.

Elektra Cruise is well-equipped with 12 adult and child-sized PFDs (life jackets); and USCG required equipment, such as a handheld VHF radio; first aid kit, fire extinguisher; flashlights, anchor, swim ladder and local charts are also provided.

Elektra is plugged in every night to fully charge the batteries, and they will last an average of 8-10 hours at cruising speed. There is a battery monitor onboard that shows the remaining battery power, similar to a fuel gauge. We have never had the batteries “die” on a trip or even go below half full after a full day of operation.

We try to be flexible and want you to have a good time. Please allow 3 days’ notice of your intent to cancel to receive a full refund of your rental fee, less any outside vendors booking fees.

With less than 3 days’ notice, (for reasons not weather-related), we will refund 50% of the rental fee. The remaining 50% may be applied to a new reservation to be used within the 2022 season. “No shows” who do not show up for their trip will forfeit their rental fee and captain’s fee if applicable.

Light rain is usually not a problem as the Duffy has large windows that can be zipped open or shut and a canopy over the interior space. In the event of high winds or stormy conditions; we will cancel the trip for a full refund or reschedule for a different date, based on availability.
