Oshkosh On the Water

Discover Oshkosh – A River Runs Through It!

The historic Fox River runs right through the middle of downtown Oshkosh, Wisconsin, providing easy access to the local waterways.

The Fox River flows from Lake Butte des Morts from the west, to mighty Lake Winnebago to the east. There are many scenic points of interest along the river banks, such as the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus.

A new paved River Walk follows both sides of the river, ideal for hiking and biking. One may also enjoy a relaxing boat cruise along the Fox River. Boats can stop and tie up at waterfront restaurants and local pubs along the river.  Local favorites include: the Fox River Brewing Company; Becket’sGround Round Bar & Grill; the Dockside TavernManila; and Greenes Pour House at the Granary. Just a short stroll from the riverfront, are more pubs and restaurants along Main Street, such as Ruby OwlBar 430,  Gardenias and more.

Summertime is the best time to visit, when you can sample the locally brewed craft beers, “Old Fashion” cocktails,  local fresh fish, such as walleye and perch, and of course, Wisconsin cheese!

All About Oshkosh

The Oshkosh Public Museum and the Paine Art Center and Gardens are well worth a visit and are within walking distance of Fox River Brewing.

There you will find interesting information on the history of Oshkosh, and about its namesake, “Chief Oshkosh” the Native American leader of the Menominee tribe. There is also a more recent history of Oshkosh’s logging and lumber industries, the role the Fox River played, and why Oshkosh was once called “Sawdust City”.

There are many more fun events happening in Oshkosh on the Water, such as live music concerts from the Leach Amphitheater which can be enjoyed from the comfort of the cockpit of Elektra, avoiding the mostly standing-room-only crowds.

The Oshkosh Farmers Market on Saturday mornings is a family favorite and Elektra can pick up or drop off near the Farmer’s Market with advance reservations.

The Grand Opera House also offers live entertainment and can be combined with your Elektra Cruise itinerary. Enjoy a sunset cruise and then be dropped off within walking distance of the Grand to enjoy a theatrical performance. EAA AirVenture is returning, bigger and better than ever. Beat the heat and crowds at the EAA airport by renting Elektra to watch the nightly airshow from the middle of Lake Winnebago. Advance reservations and special pricing may apply.
